SEMINOLE COUNTY
population: 9,147
Cities:
- Donalsonville, Georgia
- Iron City, Georgia
On July 8, 1920, a state constitutional amendment was proposed to establish a new county. It was later ratified on November 2. The land for the new county was taken from Decatur and Early counties. The county was named after the Seminole tribe of Native Americans who once inhabited the Chattahoochee River basin in the area. However, European settlement forced them to relocate to the Florida Everglades. Interestingly, this is the only county in Georgia that shares borders with both Alabama and Florida.
