Grady County was established by the Georgia General Assembly on August 17, 1905, after being carved out of parts of Decatur and Thomas Counties. It was named after Henry W. Grady, a renowned speaker and editor of the Atlanta Constitution. The majority of Grady County is situated within the Upper Ochlockonee River sub-basin, which is part of the larger Ochlockonee River basin.
