WHAT YOU'LL DO

This mid-level position focuses on comprehensive planning and related activities. You’ll work under moderate supervision and take on a variety of planning projects, including:

  • Developing and updating local & regional plans:
  • Comprehensive Plans
  • Solid Waste Management Plans
  • Land Use Plans
  • Zoning Ordinances & Maps
  • Subdivision Regulations
  • Capital Improvement Programs
  • Writing and submitting grant applications
  • Providing training & technical assistance to local Planning Commissions
  • Offering recommendations on zoning, land use, and development projects
  • Collaborating with local government officials, state agencies, and community groups
  • Performing additional duties as assigned
  • Reporting directly to the Planning Director


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Your role will be dynamic and project-based. Expect to:

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to:
  • Population & demographics
  • Economics & natural resources
  • Transportation & infrastructure
  • Community facilities & housing
  • Solid waste management and environmental planning
  • Conduct land use, housing, and other surveys
  • Develop and write plans, grant applications, ordinances, and regulations
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ensure compliance with laws, guidelines, and planning standards
  • Engage with stakeholders, including government officials, planning commissions, and the public

 
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Must-haves:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
  • Ability to explain complex concepts in clear, concise reports and documents
  • Proficiency in computer applications and word processing
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects & meet deadlines
  • Willingness to attend meetings outside regular work hours
  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License


Education & Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Planning, Business Administration, Transportation, or a closely related field
  • AICP Certification (preferred)
  • 1–4 years of planning experience
