WHAT YOU'LL DO
This mid-level position focuses on comprehensive planning and related activities. You’ll work under moderate supervision and take on a variety of planning projects, including:
- Developing and updating local & regional plans:
- Comprehensive Plans
- Solid Waste Management Plans
- Land Use Plans
- Zoning Ordinances & Maps
- Subdivision Regulations
- Capital Improvement Programs
- Writing and submitting grant applications
- Providing training & technical assistance to local Planning Commissions
- Offering recommendations on zoning, land use, and development projects
- Collaborating with local government officials, state agencies, and community groups
- Performing additional duties as assigned
- Reporting directly to the Planning Director
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Your role will be dynamic and project-based. Expect to:
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to:
- Population & demographics
- Economics & natural resources
- Transportation & infrastructure
- Community facilities & housing
- Solid waste management and environmental planning
- Conduct land use, housing, and other surveys
- Develop and write plans, grant applications, ordinances, and regulations
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ensure compliance with laws, guidelines, and planning standards
- Engage with stakeholders, including government officials, planning commissions, and the public

- Excellent verbal & written communication skills
- Ability to explain complex concepts in clear, concise reports and documents
- Proficiency in computer applications and word processing
- Ability to juggle multiple projects & meet deadlines
- Willingness to attend meetings outside regular work hours
- Valid Georgia Driver’s License
Education & Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Planning, Business Administration, Transportation, or a closely related field
- AICP Certification (preferred)
- 1–4 years of planning experience
