Regional Rural Planner

SALARY

Salary is based on education and experience.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

This mid-level position focuses on comprehensive planning and related activities. You’ll work under moderate supervision and take on a variety of planning projects, including:

Developing and updating local & regional plans:
Comprehensive Plans
Solid Waste Management Plans
Land Use Plans
Zoning Ordinances & Maps
Subdivision Regulations
Capital Improvement Programs
Writing and submitting grant applications
Providing training & technical assistance to local Planning Commissions
Offering recommendations on zoning, land use, and development projects
Collaborating with local government officials, state agencies, and community groups
Performing additional duties as assigned
Reporting directly to the Planning Director

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Your role will be dynamic and project-based. Expect to:

Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to:
Population & demographics
Economics & natural resources
Transportation & infrastructure
Community facilities & housing
Solid waste management and environmental planning
Conduct land use, housing, and other surveys
Develop and write plans, grant applications, ordinances, and regulations
Manage multiple projects simultaneously
Ensure compliance with laws, guidelines, and planning standards
Engage with stakeholders, including government officials, planning commissions, and the public

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Must-haves:

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal & written communication skills
Ability to explain complex concepts in clear, concise reports and documents
Proficiency in computer applications and word processing
Ability to juggle multiple projects & meet deadlines
Willingness to attend meetings outside regular work hours
Valid Georgia Driver’s License

Education & Experience:

Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Planning, Business Administration, Transportation, or a closely related field
AICP Certification (preferred)
1–4 years of planning experience
