District 10 Municipal Clerks Learn About Georgia Cities Week

On March 23, 2023 Emily Davenport (GMA Member Services Consultant) presented the District 10 Municipal Clerks with a presentation about Georgia Cities Week.  The City of Blakely hosted the Lunch & Learn program.  Blakely City Clerk Melinda Crook is the GMCA District 10 Director.   SWGRC Executive Director Suzanne Angell and Executive Assistant Heather White attended as well.


Georgia Cities Week is sponsored by the Georgia Municipal Association in cooperation with several organizations to reach out and share what city services are offered to citizens, to highlight successful city projects and enhancements, and to recognize city employees and volunteers. 


If your city is interested in participating in this very valuable community event it is from April 23 - April 29.  148 Georgia Cities are registered so far.  District 10 cities registered as of this publication date are Albany, Camilla, Donalsonville, Pelham, Poulan, Sylvester, Thomasville, Warwick, and Whigham.  If you would like to participate, Emily Davenport can be reached at edavenport@gacities.com, or, (404) 852-1638.

Southwest Georgia Regional Commission Receives National Association of Development Organizations 2023 Impact Award

The Southwest Georgia Regional Commission is actively seeking grants to improve the livability of Region 10 communities. Recently, three cities - Colquitt, Doerun, and Funston - were awarded grants from the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) amounting to approximately $5.3 million ($5,258,297.00). The grants will have a positive impact on the region by, Improving water, sewer, and drainage systems Developing housing, rehabilitating blighted properties and housing Provide assistance to around 200 low-to-moderate-income families To learn more about each grant and how it will benefit each community, please read on.
