Accessibility

Southwest Georgia Regional Transit will provide information regarding its services and policies and procedures in accessible formats for persons with disabilities, i.e., information in large print, braille or alternative and electronic format.


For the hearing and speaking impaired, please dial 711 to reach your state’s telecommunications relay service (TRS) to get direct assistance. 


Transit services are handicap accessible in order to provide safe and comfortable transportation for the disabled community. Lift equipped vehicles meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.


Wheelchairs :

  • Must not exceed the vehicle’s individual lift maximum design load.
  • At a minimum, wheelchairs can be accommodated up to 30 inches in width, 48 inches in length and a maximum weight, when occupied, of 600 lbs; however,
  • newer lifts may be able to accommodate a larger chair.
  • When calling to schedule a pick up, be sure to indicate the need for a lift-equipped vehicle and/or additional assistance.
  • Drivers will assist individuals with safely boarding and exiting the vehicle. 


Individuals with mobility impairments:

  • Individuals who need special assistance in navigating to and from the vehicle should have a Personal Care Attendant (PCA) ride with them.

Southwest Georgia Regional Transit will make reasonable modifications to policies, practices, or procedures when the modifications are necessary to avoid discrimination on the basis of disability or to provide program accessibility to its services, subject to the limitations of Federal Regulations 37.169(c)(1)-(3).


Individuals requesting reasonable modifications to Southwest Georgia Regional Transit’s service shall contact the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Coordinator at (229) 522-3552 to describe that they need in order to use the service. Individuals requesting modifications are not required to use the term “reasonable modification” when making a request.
