U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff would like to notify you that Federal grant funding is available to help eliminate dangerous railroad crossings in Georgia through the bipartisan infrastructure law. 


The Railroad Crossing Elimination Program, which is made possible by the bipartisan infrastructure law, provides Federal funding for projects to address safety concerns at rail crossings through a competitive U.S. Department of Transportation grant process. 


Eligible projects include: 


  • Grade separation or closure, including through the use of a bridge, embankment, tunnel, or combination thereof 
  • Track relocation 
  • Improvement or installation of protective devices, signals, signs, or other 
  • Measures to improve safety related to a separation, closure, or track relocation project 
  • Other means to improve the safety if related to the mobility of people and goods at highway-rail grade crossings (including technological solutions) 
  • The planning, environmental review, and design of an eligible project type 


Eligible applicants are:

  • a State,
  • a unit of local government,
  • a Tribal government,
  • a metropolitan planning organization,
  • a public port authority, or a group of eligible entities.

Applications are due by September 23, 2024, at 11:59 PM ET.

The Southwest Georgia Regional Commission is actively seeking grants to improve the livability of Region 10 communities. Recently, three cities - Colquitt, Doerun, and Funston - were awarded grants from the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) amounting to approximately $5.3 million ($5,258,297.00). The Seminole County Board of Commissioners has been awarded a Community HOME Investment Grant (CHIP) to make needed repairs to the homes of eligible low- and moderate-income homeowners living in a target area (see map) within the unincorporated areas of Seminole County. Priority will be given to eligible applicants 62 years of age and older. Repairs cannot be made to mobile homes or manufactured homes. CHIP enables access to safe, adequate, and sanitary housing for families with low to moderate income.
